2008 Care Giving Projects
Foster Care Assistant
June 2008- Over the past two years we have seen increased use of foster homes to provide orphans with individual care and attention in a family setting. Local Chinese families are opening their homes to assist with the nurturing of the children under their care. These families are being trained and carefully monitored to see that the babies and toddlers are developing in a healthy, happy, loving environment. They are providing one-on-one care of special needs children. A foster care program also helps to decrease the high child-to-nanny ratio within the orphanage, thus allowing more attention given to the children residing at the institution.
We at Hope's Heart believe strongly in foster care and quality oversight of the program. With the increase in foster homes comes the need for increased supervision and training. Therefore, we are honored to fund the salary of a foster care assistant. She will work along-side the foster care director to provide high quality management and ongoing training to the foster parents. The outcome will ultimately benefit the children within the program.
AUGUST UPDATE- The new Foster Care Assistant is excellent with the children and already knows each one's situation. We are grateful for her heart to attend to the needs of the foster children and families.
Physical Therapist
June 2008- One critical area of care giving for children with limited use of their bodies is physical therapy. This therapy helps build flexibility and strength, improve mobility, and increase positioning and movement. Hope's Heart is excited to provide the funding for a Physical Therapist to join the care giving team of an orphanage primarily housing children with special mobility needs like cerebral palsy. Her treatment is designed to improve mobility and restore functioning in the areas the children require development. Through positioning, strengthening and stretching, the children will gain increased large and small motor skill development. In addition to helping improve the quality of life of the children resident at the orphanage, the physical therapist will also train foster parents serving [in their home] other children from the orphanage. The foster parents will then be able to work with the child in their care with exercises and activities that improve flexibility, strength, mobility and function.
August UPDATE- In September a time of one-on-one training for the new therapist will enlarge her scope of expertise and equip her with more knowledge and resources to assist each child under her care to develop to their utmost potential.

November UPDATE- The PT continues to work with the children as well as learn new skills that will aid in further development and therapy planning for the children. She has a great attitude and communicates well with foster families.
2007 Care Giving Projects
Loving Care
February 2007- If you've ever left your child with a caregiver, you know how critically important it is to have a loving, caring, competent individual who you can trust. The care and attention given to China's orphans is no less important. We are pleased to provide a one year sponsorship to a special lady who is devoted to the special needs babies in her care. Each day she sees to the babies every need, and instills within the realization that they are loved and valued.
Caregiving Sponsorships Continue from 2006
January 2007- Two caregivers, sponsored in 2006, continue to give individual attention and stimulation to the babies/toddlers in their care. Great progress is being made in the area of growth and development because of the focus on the unique needs of each child. The sponsoring of additional ayis/nannies brings an increased quality of care for children residing in institutional settings. You can read more on the 2006 Caregiving 06 page.
January UPDATE- The sparkling personalities of the children are being seen more and more. The individual attention given by the caregivers is helping with limb and muscle development, imitation, and a focus on language/speech. We are grateful for the amazing differences these children are exhibiting because of those who have made their growth possible.
