Care Giving Needs 2012 and 2011
[Link to 2011]

Understanding the importance of physical touch and individual attention, Hope's Heart supports programs that promote care giving in an environment of loving interaction with the children.  Nanny sponosrships aid in lowering the child-to-nanny ratio, thus allowing the children improved attention and time.  The ongoing care and special attention contributes greatly to the physical, emotional, and mental development of the orphans.  Other programs within the care giving focus include nanny and foster care parent training, and hiring of foster care coordinators and physical therapists.

Additional Caregiver [Auntie] Renewal

October 2011-  The value added to the children's lives because of additional caregivers is critical.  We are happy to renew the caregiver sponsorship for another six months.

Physical Therapist Renewal

May 2011-
Realizing the critical need for and the amazing benefits a physical therapist contributes toward orphan care needs, we are grateful to be able to grant another year of sponsorship.  The therapist will continue to provide a critical component to the development of many children under her care.

June UPDATE- We wanted to share with you some of the accomplishments realized through the work of the physical therapist with the children she serves.

8 year old boy:  Now able to finish a grasp action with his left hand
13 year old boy:  Practicing prone leg extension.  This exercise will help make his lower libs straighten when he is standing.
9 year old girl:  She has improved in being able to pick things up with two fingers.
6 year old boy: He can now press a ball from both sides when it is between his legs while sitting on a chair.  He can sit well now.
13 year old girl:  She can complete the exercise of putting the nut on the screw.
3 year old girl:  Sitting on a wooden bench, she can place her feet flat on the ground.
3 year old boy:  After a long process of training, he can rise unaided from a sitting position.

Additional Caregiver [Auntie]

May 2011-
Most
orphanages can benefit greatly from additional caregivers to help meet the needs of all the children.  We are pleased to contribute to the funding of a new auntie in one such orphanage.  We know the children will thrive with the extra care and attention she provides for them.

July UPDATE- There's always a need for an extra set of hands and a heart of love when a bunch of kids are together.  In orphanage orphange, that need is all day every day.

August UPDATE-  Caring for children with cerebral palsy takes lots of additonal hours.  The aunties are a wonderful asset and have been trained with hydrotherapy and physical therapy.

Physical Therapy

The administration of physical therapy to babies and children born with challenges such as cerebral palsy provides life changing results.  It is an effective tool in aiding children in gaining mobility, stability, balance, speech and language development and competency, and gross and fine motor skills.  Additionally, physical therapy promotes self-care abilities as well as social and cognitive competency.

Imagine how noted progress can instill a sense of worth and accomplishment in a child old enough to understand his/her limitations.  For a baby/toddler early intervention provides an avenue for the progression of critical developmental stages like rolling, sitting, crawling and eventually walking.

February 2011- We rejoice with the progress reported this month as attention is given to each child's unique needs by the physical therapist.  Below is a sampling of comments of a number of the children.

* After one month's rehabilitation, he can finish one-foot balance.  He is beginning to walk and take step training.

*  His walking stability is getting better, and he can lift an object over his head.

*  He can recognize the things surrounding him in daily life.

*  After training, she can grasp the food and put it in her mouth.

*  She can now pull up her own pants.

*  He just started rehabilitation which includes full body function positioning training, standing training, and arm stretching training.

*  After daily training of tendon traction, knee joint bending and stretching, now he can put both feet on the ground by leaning on a children's ladder brace.

*  After going to the restroom, he can use one hand to pull up his pants while the other hand grips the side bar.

*  She can feed herself and can wash her face by herself.

*  Her mental development is slow.  After training she can do some pair matching with pictures.
