 Basic Life Needs 2010 & 2009
[Link to  2009]

Hope's Heart desires for all orphans to have their basic needs met.  These include food, clothing, shelter, and attention to their special needs.  This goal can often be met through child sponsorship programs and foster care placements.  Nutrition programs provide high quality formula to at-risk babies whose bodies require added nutrition to thrive, or for those babies who are preparing for or recovering from surgery.  Other basic life needs may be met through programs that supply winter clothing, shoes or new cribs.

2010 Basic Life Projects

More Foster Care Renewals

December 2010-
Realizing the immense value in foster care placement, fifteen of our children had their foster care sponsorships renewed this month.... Noah, JJ, Daisy, William, Susan, Christopher, Chase, Luke, Faith, Bonnie, Chip, Leslie, Becca, Mary Elizabeth and Lucy.

Newest Cleft Baby

November 2010-
We just love helping cleft affected babies receive the very best of care to aid in their growth and preparation for surgery.  This month we welcome baby Blaise.  Over the next weeks Blaise will be given dedicated attention to his unique needs in preparation for and then recover from cleft surgery.

March 2011 UPATE- Sweet Blaise continues to struggle with respiratory issues and has been in and out of the hospital for pneumonia and bronchitis treatments.  He continues to be closely monitored.  These complications have kept him from having his cleft lip repair thus far.

Foster Care Renewals

November 2010-  We have watched the progress Brooke, Sadie, Jennifer, Joshua and Barbara have made over the past months.  Their sponsorships are being renewed for the next six months.

Cleft Healing Home

September/October 2010-
The opportunity for a cleft affected baby to leave the orphanage and reside at the Cleft Healing Home is an enormous gift.  We are grateful to play a small part in their healing through sponosorship of their time at the healing home.  Join us in welcoming Wynne, Chase, Delaney, Charlotte and Lina.

January 2011 UPDATE- Sadly, Lina passed away from respiratory failure.  Delanie and Chase have both graduated following successful surgery.

Healing Home Supplies

August 2010-
A new healing home is being constructed to meet the urgent needs of cleft babies as well as other medically fragile babies with issues that require special attention.  We are honored to play a small part in this new endevour by providing 10 bouncy chairs, a case of premmie formula, a microwave, a digital baby scale and two high chairs.

Foster Care Placement

August 2010-
Diana is no stranger to Hope's Heart.  We have helped support her care at the cleft healing home as well as her cleft lip surgery.  Now Diana has recovered from the surgery and has been placed in a foster care home.  We are excited to continue watching her grow and develop.

Loving Care

July/August 2010-
Zoe and Brooke are two sweet baby girls who are being sponsored for their daily care.  They are residing at a private group foster home where loving and devoted care is given to their every need.  We are honored to play a small part in their lives.

Foster Care Sponsorship

July 2010-
Support is being provided to help with Eliana's foster care placement.  We are so grateful this precious little girl is in a home with loving foster parents.  She is receiving care and attention after a successful heart surgery.

September UPDATE- Eliana is full of joy and developing well.  She is almost always seen with a smile on her face.

Urgent Care

July 2010-  Ruth was two months old when we met her.  She was failing to thrive in the orphanage, malnurished, unresponsive, and able to digest only the tiniest bit of formaula at a time.  She has been moved to a special care home where she will have individual attention to her needs around the clock.  Thank you for providing for Ruth's care and for your prayers over the next days, weeks and months.

August UPDATE- Ruth has been hospitalized with multiple issues including breathing and eating difficulties and a severe lung infection.

September UPDATE- Ruth was struggling with numerous critical issues.  She was not responding to treatment and her frail body would not gain strength.  After spending over a month in the hospital, Ruth died peacefully.

New Cribs

July 2010-  Replacement of cribs that are deemed dangerous for the babies is our most recent project.  New cribs are being provided for a rural orphanage that is very appreciative of our assistance.  The babies will be safe from cribs with peeling paint and foundations that are not secure.  As soon as the replacement cribs are delivered, we will provide pictures of the 'new'.

September UPDATE- The babies are safely in their new cribs, with no worry from the dangers of peeling paint.  A special 'thank you' to the donors who made this gift possible.

Five New Foster Care Sponsorships

July 2010
-  We continue to strive to support the placement of babies and children in caring foster families.  This month we are thrilled to welcome Autumn, Aurora, Hosea, Luke and Gentry  as our newest foster sponsorships.  We know the critical advantages of foster care over institutional living, and we are honored to help supply their placements.  Join us in welcoming these sweet little ones.

December 2010 UPDATE- Hosea has been adopted!!

February 2011 UPDATE-  Aurora has been adopted!!

Specialized Care

July 2010-  Sweet Henry was born with heart disease and received surgery in January.  Hope's Heart was happy to help support part of his surgery and now a portion of his care at a specialized care unit where he is under the loving watchful eye of a dedicated team of nannies, a doctor and a nurse.

October UPDATE- Henry is playful and enjoys interacting with others.  He spends the greatest part of the day playing with toys and walking around.

Foster Care

June 2010-
We are grateful each time we are able to sponsor one more child in foster care.  Join us in welcoming Honor.  At 1 1/2 years of age, she is described as lovely and active by her foster parents.

October UPDATE-  Honor is growing in independence. She likes to play outside.  She is learning to feed herself, and she can get up by herself when she falls.

Infant Formula

June 2010-
When babies are fed cow's milk or diluted formula because of scarcity of nutrient rich formula, their chances of healthy development diminishes.  For some babies they may even fail to thrive.  That is why we have just made a substantial grant to provide a high quality infant formula.  We are confident this investment will enrich the lives and health of many babies.

8 Foster Care Renewals

June 2010- Continuing to reside with their foster families are  Hope, Faith, Luke, Chase, Leslie, Chip, Bonnie and Becca.  Their sponsorships are being renewed, and they will continue to grow and develop under the care of a foster mom and dad.   If you have an interest in sponsoring a child in foster care, simply contact Hope's Heart [info@HopesHeart.org ], and we will be happy to match you with a child in need.

September UPDATE- Barbara's foster parents threw a party for her first birthday!  This may seem a 'normal' event, but for most orphans in China there is no recognition of birthday.  We share in the excitement and joy Barbara is finding with her foster family.

November UPDATE-  Barbara's sponsorship is being renewed for another 6 months.

Basic Life Need Sponsorships

May 2010-
We are pleased to introduce you to Jennifer and Joshua.  These two little ones are our newest children to receive basic life need care, thanks to a Hope's Heart donor who has a huge loving  heart for China's orphans.  Jennifer and Joshua are being cared for at a wonderful group foster home where attention is given to their special needs and where they a daily loved and adored.

July UPDATE- Lindsey's foster mother says Lindsey is growning taller and cuter. She is clearing calling her family members by name, and she is sometimes heard speaking in her own little language.  Her foster mother says she is smart and lovely.

Cleft Bottles

April 2010-
Babies born with a cleft lip and palate require specialized feeding of their formula.  Because of the open lip, the baby is unable to draw out milk from a regular bottle.  Cleft bottles require little to no suction.  Instead, these bottles allow the care giver to gently squeeze the bottle and release milk a little at a time. Three cases of cleft bottles have just been donated to an orphanage caring for 40 cleft affected babies.

Heartbridge Care Renewal

February 2010- Barbara is getting the best of care at the Heartbridge unit.  She resides there because of the special attention she needs due to issues associated with her premature birth [see October 2009].  Barbara's sponsorship has been renewed so she can continue to develop and overcome the issues of her early birth.  She is doing well, as you can see from the current picture.
