Basic Life Needs 2008 and 2007
[Link to 2007]

Hope's Heart desires for all orphans to have their basic needs met.  These include food, clothing, shelter, and attention to their special needs.  This goal can often be met through child sponsorship programs and foster care placements.  Nutrition programs provide high quality formula to at-risk babies whose bodies require added nutrition to thrive, or for those babies who are preparing for or recovering from surgery.  Other basic life needs may be met through programs that supply winter clothing, shoes or new cribs.

2008 Basic Life Projects

85 Coats for Kids

December 2008-  The winter season brings with it snowy, cold temperature in much of China.  As part of our holiday outreach, an opportunity was opened to donors to provide new coats for orphans urgently needing them.  This year  85 children are being gifted with a new winter coat to shield them from the wind and snow.  We are trusting that their new coats will contribute to a healthier season for all.

16 Cribs for Babies

December 2008-  As part of our holiday outreach, funds were raised to gift 16 babies in central China with brand new, safe, stainless steel cribs.  These new cribs will replace old, broken wooden cribs, allowing each baby to be safe and secure.

More Formula

December 2008-
Rising costs and tainted formula in China have contributed to the need for more and more enriched formula to be supplied to the orphanages.  This month a large donation has been used to provide one orphanage all the formula they need for a few months.   The babies can be sure they are being well fed and getting the vitamins and nutrients they need.

3 New Sponsor Babies

December 2008-  We are pleased to introduce you to 3 babies who are new to Hope's Heart sponsorship.  Our ability to continue existing sponsorships and add new ones is only made possible by our generous supporters.  Thank you for caring so much about the children who so desperately need our help.

Na was born prematurely and was hospitalized for the first two months of life.  She is now in a special home where she is receiving individualized round-the-clock care.  Here she will receive the best of care in a loving environment with caregivers capable of meeting her special challenges.

Gavin is a newborn with a severe cleft lip.  His sponsorship helps to provide for his care at a cleft home that is devoted to loving and caring for babies who are cleft effected.  Gavin will remain at this home for a few months as he gets strong enough for surgery, as well as reside their for a number of weeks of  post surgery care.

Debra was born with a severe heart disorder.  She was moved from the orphanage to a foster group home where she is receiving focused attention to her daily care as well as to her heart surgery.  Her sponsorship covers her daily care needs.

Basic Life Sponsorship

November 2008-
Adding a new baby or toddler to our basic life need sponsorships is always a joy.  This month we welcome Jeremy. This cute little 2 year old loves runnning, playing and singing.  He is full of energy, has learned to dress himself, and loves to ride a tricycle.  What a joy it will be to watch him grow and develop.

Basic Life Sponsorship

October 2008-  Join us in welcoming Gracie as our newest basic life need sponsor baby. Because of compassionate, generous donors we are able to continue to provide new children with sponsorships.  Gracie is being lovingly cared for with watchful attention to her every need.  We know she is often resting in the arms of devoted nannies.

Lots of Formula

October 2008
-
Cases of high nutrition formula have been provided for 7 cleft affected babies for the next several months.  Very special care is being given to their personal feeding as they prepare for and recover from cleft surgeries.  What a blessing to their overall health!

Foster Home

September 2008 Baby Leslie is our newest foster care sponsorship child.  She is getting excellent, devoted care and special attention to her cleft needs.  In just a few months she should be well on her way to being ready for cleft repair surgery.  For now her day will consist of lots of love and cuddling.

December UPDATE- Leslie has received cleft surgery and is healing beautifully.  She continues to receive the very best of care and attention.

Nutrition Sponsorships

July  2008- Nutritional formula is instrumental in providing the necessary nutrients for healthier, happier babies.  The results are  babies with stronger muscle tone and increased weight.   This month Hope's Heart has supplied cases of high quality formula to an orphanage whose children are benefiting from this gift.  In another orphanage a tiny little girl, Jie, will be receiving her own quantity of formula to supply her feeding needs for the next three months.

Foster Care times 5

June 2008- We are thrilled to announce that Hope's Heart is helping to sponsor five (5) more children in foster care.  Each of these little girls will grow under the watchful eye and loving care of a foster family.  What a joy to know they are being given this special opportunity to experience a family.  Join us in welcoming Bonnie, Hope, Faith, Natalie and Kaylinn.

September UPDATE-  Each of these sweet little girls is loved by and adjusting well to their foster families.  Their days are spent playing, eating and exploring the new arenas open to them.  They are developing in motor skills and language...each in their appropriate age range.  They have enjoyed being out of doors throughout the summer months...playing and interacting with others...but never straying from their foster mothers.

December UPDATE- We continue to be encouraged by the progress these five little girls are making with their foster families...experiencing childhood in a family setting.  We are happy for each one of them...most especially Natalie who is matched for adoption and joining her new family.

3 Babies in Foster Care

June 2008- Babies born with a cleft lip and palate require added attention to their needs so they can grow healthy and strong.  A foster family offers a solution to their unique needs, as well as the joy of experiencing life outside and institution.  It is our honor to provide a one year sponsorship for Kyle, Jon and Becca for placement in a foster home.

September UPDATE- We are receiving wonderful reports on all the children.  They are growing attached to their foster parents and gaining much attention and love.  Their days are characterized by eating, playing, sleeping, eating, playing and sleeping.  They are all eating solid foods in addition to their daily allowance of formula.

November UPDATE- Becca has learned to walk and is taking advantage of every opportunity to do so.  Jon, too, can walk now without assistance and loves to play with his toys.  Kyle eats all kinds of food and especially likes the sweet ones.  A big smile comes across his face every time his name is called.

Nutrition Sponsorship

May 2008- Receiving special formula is sometimes a necessity for proper digestion and growth.  For the next few months baby Natalie will benefit from a formula that will give her the best chance for steady growth and development.  We are believing this formula will be a huge benefit to her tiny body.

December 2008- Not only has Natalie experienced steady grown, but she has also been matched with her adoptive family.  What a HUGE blessing this is to little Natalie...a family of her own.  We are so excited for her.

Special Attention

May 2008-  Tiny Boaz is being sponsored to help provide his daily needs of formula, clothing, shelter and basic medical care.  This little guy is being given special attention to his unique needs, and we look forward to watching him begin to gain weight and get healthy.

June UPDATE- Boaz is gaining weight and loves to be held and get attention from adults.  He is beginning to babbly contently to himself, and follow the other children in the playroom with his eyes.

September UDPATE- Boaz continues to gain more weight and become more mobile. He is a happy, chubby baby boy.  He loves to smile, kick his feet and never turns down a bottle or food.  Did we mention he is gaining weight?

Foster Care

May 2008-
Christopher is blessed with the opportunity to live with a foster family who devotes their time to helping him with the physical challenges he faces.  At the same time he is learning bonding and attachment.  Hope's Heart is thrilled to help provide this blessing in his life.

July UPDATE-  Christopher is doing well and gaining strength.  He has learned to greet people when they approach and say good-bye when they leave.  He is considerate to others.

September UDPATE- Christopher enjoys being outside.  He is very friendly and like to be around other children.  He also likes when he is given the opportunity to watch TV.

Sponsorships of Basic Life Needs

April 2008- Because of the enormous numbers of orphans in China needing care, every child who can be helped through a basic life sponsorship is given greater opportunities for health and development.  For the next year Hope's Heart will assist with Evan and Madeline's care by making a financial contribution into their lives.  Both of these special children are being give outstanding  love and attention, and we are honored to play a small part in their lives.

May UPDATE- Madeline has a cute little smile and enjoys being held.  With a good appetite, she enjoys her milk and cereal.   Evan's bright smile shows how happy he is.  He has mastered crawling and standing next to furniture.  Walking is not far off.  Like Madeline, Evan likes to eat especially when it involves finger foods that he can hold on his own.

July UPDATE- Evan wants to explore and touch everything he can reach.  He has learned to clap his hands together and is happy with any toy he has.  Madeline loves to interact with people, and imitates them when they wave hello or good-bye.  Her fine motor skills are excellent and learning new things every day.

September UPDATE- Evan is a cute, active little guy.  He is learning to say a couple words and has now mastered walking.    Madeline has learned to walk along furniture.  When music is playing, Madeline moves her body to the melody.  Both children bring their foster families much joy.

November UPDATE- Evan is learning to ride his little bike.  He always smiles at people and knows how to play well with other children by exchanging toys.  Madeline has brought a lot of happiness to her foster family.  She has learned to walk by herself now.  She loves to wear pretty clothes and play outside.

A Year of Foster Care

February 2008-  Every day the abandonment of babies in China continues to fill orphanages with frail, helpless, beautiful little children.  For those who are cleft affected, the challenges to thrive are even greater.  We at Hope's Heart, with your support and partnership, do all we can to maximize the care given to these babies.  Our hearts are so drawn to little Jake; and we have just provided the funding so that the next year of his life will be spent under the loving care of a foster family.  There he will receive individualized attention to his special feeding and bonding needs.  Thank you to the donors who have made this life changing opportunity a reality.

May UPDATE- Jake is doing well and gaining weight with the devotion of his foster mother and quality formula.  At his young age his favorite activity is sleeping.

July UPDATE- Jake is beginning to stay awake for longer periods of time.  He is looking around and curious about everything he sees.  He likes to smile when people are around him.

September UPDATE- Eggs and soup have been added to supplement Jake's milk diet.  He has grown enough to be able to have his cleft lip repaired.  The surgery is scheduled for early October.

November UDPATE- Jake did receive cleft surgery in October and has healed well.  We continues to grow strong and receive loving care.

Diapers! Diapers! Diapers!

February 2008- Anyone who has been around babies knows a day doesn't go by when diaper after diaper after diaper needs to be changed to keep the little one healthy, dry and comfortable.  And if you've needed to purchase diapers, you know that is no little expense.  A grant has just been released to provide 3 1/2 months of diapers for seven (7) cleft affected babies as they prepare for surgery.  Thanks to the efforts of a special mom who held a 'blog shower', these little girls and boys will stay dry and happy.

One Year of Basic Life Needs

February 2008-  Everyone knows that raising a child costs money.  Even the most basic needs like food, clothing and shelter come with a price tag attached.  We are honored to help supply the cost of Camille's next year of basic needs.  This special little girl is getting excellent care and attention, under the genuine love of nannies who are looking out for her best interest.  We are happy to play a part in Camille's growth and development, so her nannies can focus on loving and caring for her on a day-to-day basic.

May UPDATE- Camille is now living with a foster family.  She is outgoing and enjoys when visitors stop by the house, and is not hesitant to have them hold her.   Playing and dancing are two of her favorite activities.  She is beginning to say her first words.

July UPDATE- Camille is now 2 years old.  She likes to help clean vegetables and bring her shoes when it is time to go outside.  Her foster family says she is so cute and they love her.

September UPDATE- Attending preschool is Camille's newest venture.  She plays very well with other children, dances when music is played, and has a habit of looking at herself in the mirror.  She is a funny little girl.

November UPDATE- ADOPTED!  That's the word we love to hear.  This month Camille joined her forever family!

This month Susan underwent heart surgery.  We are so grateful for the news that she did well and is recovering nicely.

Renewed Sponsorship

January 2008- We have loved watching Wendel grow over the past year under loving care and attention.  He has blossomed physically as well as in his adorable personality.  We desire to see him continue in his foster care home, and have just renewed his sponsorship for one more year.  Our desire, however, as with all orphans, is that they will be matched and united with a forever family of their own.  We will see what the next months hold for adorable Wendel.

April UPDATE- Wendel is a smart little boy.  He enjoys not only his cars, but also singing and hearing stories.  He has learned to count to ten, go up and down stairs on his own, remove his socks and shoes, and unzip his coat.  He likes to draw.  What a charming little guy!

Visiting With Babies

July 2007-
It was an incredible blessing for the founders of Hope's Heart to visit some of their sponsored  babies and toddlers.  These are children who have benefited from either medical or basic life sponsorships.  The time spend holding, playing and loving them was so rewarding.  Here's a picture sampling....

Nutrition

July 2007- Providing a higher quality nutritional formula to either replace or supplement orphanage formula has noted remarkable differences.  Babies  have benefited from the new formula with noticible progress in health, growth, sleep, activity levels and development.  Knowing this, a grant to provide Ji with this enriched formula for the next 6 months will encourage a quicker recovery from surgery and increase her overall health.
