Basic Life Needs 2006 and 2005
[Link to 2005]

Hope's Heart desires for all orphans to have their basic needs met.  These include food,  clothing, and shelter.  Such needs can often be met through child sponsorship programs, nutrition programs, and foster care placement.

Basic Life Projects 2006

Nutritional Formula Program

June 2006
General Fund-  We believe so strongly in providing the very best nutritional formula to infants in their early months to ensure healthy growth and development.  Because of this, we have released a second grant (see April 2006 below).  This formula will help support some of the nutritional needs of 120 babies, most under the age of 12 months.

September 2006Feng- We continue to respond to the intense need some orphan babies have for a high quality formula that provides the essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients they need.  Feng has special physical needs which will not allow her body to process regular formula.  Therefore, through generous giving to her particular individual need, Feng has been provided with 6 months of special formula that her body can receive and digest.

November UPDATE- We are so pleased to know Feng has had such improvement in her health and growth since receiving the special formula for her body's needs.  Her newest pictures show her (after only 2 months)healthy and happy.  She has just celebrated her first birthday, and we are pleased the new formula is meeting the needs of her stomach irregularities.

October 2006-   Believing strongly in the value of formula rich in nourishment, another grant has been made to provide this quality formula to two more babies....Zhi and Shuang.  These little ones will benefit over the next four months as they receive nutrients for the healthy growth of their bodies.  Funding for this formula was provided by an outreach of  Kid's Rock, a local church children's group.

One Year Basic Life Need Sponsorship

June 2006-
One or two at a time, we are able to help meet the basic life needs of China's orphans.  These two beautiful little girls are our newest sponsor children.  Each month we are providing the funding to cover their daily needs....food, clothing, bottles, and minor medical expenses.  (Nanny salary and major medical expenses not included).  They are living in a beautiful, loving facility where they receive outstanding care.  We are pleased to introduce you to Libi and Kailee.  Your contribution make it possible for us to provide to the children still in need of support.  Please consider a generous donation. See HOW YOU CAN HELP.

August UPDATE-  What a blessing!  Libi has been placed with a foster family in the village near her orphanage.  She was welcomed with loving arms, and will receive  one-on-one attention to help her develop socially, emotionally and physically.

October UPDATE- Kailee.  It is a joy to see the babies/children growing and exhibiting their unique personalities.  Kailee has been able to crawl since early August and can sit on her own. She can walk if her hands are held and can stand up if she is leaning against something.  She responds to her own name and can follow basic instructions. She likes to play with any toys. Kailee can clap her hands and wave goodbye, is very vocal, laughs a lot and can say mama, and is generally happy.  She has just completed surgery to repair her cleft palate.

October UPDATE-Libi-
Libi is very happy with her new family.  She is thriving as she loves all the attention, the new toys, and even watching TV. She can stand and sit and crawl backwards.

December UPDATE- Kailee.  Kailee is now living with her new foster family, and will now have new opportunities to interact and explore the village in which she lives.  Hope's Heart will continue to support her placement with her new foster mother and father.

Foster Care Sponsorship

April 2006-
Being given the opportunity to live with a foster family affords an orphan the chance to live in and be nurtured in a family setting.  Xi will soon leave the orphanage and join a foster family thanks to her sponsorship made possible by your generous support.  A grant from Hope's Heart will cover the expenses for Xi to live with a foster family for the next year.  Regular correspondences will keep us updated on her growth and development.  We are thankful she has been given this chance for individual attention, love and care in a non-institutionalized setting.

May UPDATE-
Xi is happy and doing well with her new foster family.  We are grateful for the love and one-on-one care and attention she is getting.

July UPDATE-  Xi continues to be a happy little girl and enjoys being with her foster family.  She is beginning to babble, reaches her hands to great people, likes her toys, and is beginning to take her first steps.  She plays with other children, responds to her name, and follows simple commands.  What a wonderful report!  We are grateful for the opportunity for her to have a foster home.

November UPDATE- Xi continues to do so well.  She can walk about independently, recognizes people, and is a good helper around the house.
UPDATE- Continue reading about Xi in 2007 Basic Life Needs.

Special Attention and Formula for Sheng

April 2006-
Because of special needs including a cleft lip and palate, Sheng requires individual attention to his feeding and a nutritious rich formula.  We are pleased to sponsor Sheng for the next 6 months with formula and assistance individualized to his need.

July UPDATE-  Sheng smiles easily when tickled. He is curious of his surroundings and responds to sounds or voices.  He continues to be fed a high grade formula with a special cleft bottle.  This will help him gain weight until his cleft surgeries can be completed.  Arrangements will be made in the fall for him to receive cleft lip surgery.  All other development is consistent with his age.

Becca's Basic Life Needs (continued from November 2005)

March/April UPDATE- We began sponsoring Becca's basic life needs a few months ago (November 2005).  She  continues to grow under the love and care of the children's village where she lives.  She is now able to sit up on her own.

May UPDATE-  We were honored to sponsor Becca's cleft lip surgery this month...and she is doing wonderfully.  The pictures are in.   (See May 2006 Medical for more pictures)

December UPDATE- What every orphan dreams of has come true for Becca.  We just received word that Becca has been adopted and is now residing with her forever family.  We pray a lifetime of love, joy and blessings for Becca and her new family.

Basic Life Sponsorships for Josie Anne and Esther

January 2006-
We have just begun a one year sponsorship of two little girls...Josie Anne and Esther (see below).  We will look forward to bringing you reports of their growth and care as the months progress.

April UPDATE- Josie Anne-  We are thrilled to receive this wonderful update on Josie Anne.  Josie Anne  is now sitting up with little support.  She enjoys playing with small toys and can pass them from one hand to another.  She enjoys being in the walker although she cannot move herself but it gives her a good opportunity to look around.  She is very alert and watches the other children in the room at play.

July UPDATE-  Josie Anne is doing well and is happy sitting on her Ayi's lap and  playing.  She also received surgery to correct her right leg and has received casting of her feet.  The casts will remain on for a few weeks.  We are grateful for the love, care, attention she is receiving, and for the blessing of medical attention she is receiving.

October UPDATE- We are delighted with the newest report and picture of Josie Anne.   She is able to sit on her own.  She can shuffle along on her bottom, likes to play with noisy toys and will use both hands to investigate them. She responds to her own name and understands a few words like wait, time for dinner and bedtime.  She gets very upset if her ayi is not in the room. Her favorite food is noodles.

March UPDATE- Esther-  We just received word that little Ester is doing very well.  She has begun eating cereal, making gurgling noises, and becoming more alert and aware of what is taking place around her.  She loves being held and is communicating using her eyes, hands, and sounds.  It is wonderful to hear that she continues to 'blossom' and change with each passing month.

April UPDATE- We are excited to announce that Esher was able to be placed with a foster family.  She is doing very well and her foster family is so excited to have her join them.  It is a pleasure to hear of the continued progress  she has been able to make during the past month.  Esther continues to grow and develop into a beautiful little girl.  She is now starting to be able to eat a larger variety of food.   Right from the start, she has really enjoyed eating cereal.  She is also becoming more and more aware of everything that is taking place around her.  Whenever Esther sees someone whom she is familiar with, she will look at them and smile.  However, if there is an unfamiliar person around her, she will just stare at them and try to figure out who they are.  She is also becoming more and more aware of lights, sounds, and movements.  Now, whenever she hears any noises that she is uncertain of, she will quickly look around her to see if she is able to figure out where they are coming from.  With each passing month, she is also growing stronger.  She is currently able to sit up with assistance and she has also learned how to hold her head up on her own, turn over, and hold small toys that she wants to play with.

June UPDATE-  We are thrilled to hear how Esther is growing and developing in all areas through the love she is receiving from her foster parents.  She now enjoys interacting with everyone who happens to be around her.  She smiles and talks 'baby talk'.  Esther enjoys being held, especially by her foster parents.  She can get everywhere she wants by crawling, and is becoming aware of everything that is taking place around her.

September UPDATE- What a joy to follow Esther's growth and the wonderful care she is receiving.  Esther loves to smile, and her smile really wins people’s heart. She is very healthy and now has six teeth.  She loves to eat most anything, but her favorite foods are rice, porridge, noodles, dumplings and fruit.  Esther really enjoys playing outside, and she plays games with other little friends in her foster family’s garden.  And, she is now learning to walk with a little assistance.  She is a special little girl who brings a lot of joy to those around her!

November UPDATE- Esther now has eight teeth and especially enjoys eating rice and dumplings.  She is very active now and likes to play with other children.  She is learning to walk now with a little assistance.   Esther is scheduled to have surgery for her foot next summer.

December UPDATE- Esther is an active little girl.  She loves music, watching cartoons on TV, eating, and jumping.  To continue hearing more about Esther, visit 2007 Basic Life Needs.

Yi Basic Life Sponsorship (continued from 2005)

March UPDATE- Yi is a very curious and energetic young lady.  She is discovering the world around her as she explores the opportunities provided by her foster family.  She has enjoyed the challenge of learning to feed herself.  She loves to walk and run around.  Every picture we receive of her shines with her bright smile.

APRIL UPDATE-
Yi has now been living with her foster family for approximately nine months.  It seems that with each passing month, she becomes more and more happy.  Because of her sunny disposition, everyone immediately falls in love with her.   Your contributions to Hope's Heart make it possible to continue supporting Yi and other orphans with their basic life needs.  Thank you for your generosity.

Recently, Yi's foster family has been working hard to teach her how to be polite.  Whenever she is given snack items, she has learned how to share them with others before she starts eating any of them.  Yi is a very smart young lady who enjoys constantly learning about everything that is happening around her.  Whenever she sees adults do something, she will quickly try to copy whatever she has seen them do.  Because of this, she has learned how to sweep the floor, wipe off the dining room tables and chairs, and wash the windows.  Yi continues to be a wonderful, obedient young lady.  She brings much love and laughter to the lives of her foster family.

June UPDATE-  Yi continues to be a delight to her foster family and is learning so much about the world around her.  She enjoys going to the market, having her hair combed, and  helping her foster mother.  She continues trying to communicate and is learning how to say new words and phrases.  Her big, beautiful eyes seem to take in everything that is taking place around her.

Your contributions to Hope's Heart make it possible to continue supporting Yi and other orphans with their basic life needs.  Thank you for your generosity.

October UPDATE-
Hope's Heart first sponsored Yi for a cleft lip surgery in March 2005, then began a one year basic life need sponsorship in October 2005.  One year has flown by, and we have been so blessed to watch Yi grow.  She has recently celebrated her second birthday.  Our gift to her is another year of sponsorship.  So, watch with excitement the next 12 months as we continue to hear of Yi's growth and development through this very special time of her life.

December UPDATE- Yi enjoys reading picture books, kicking a ball, aand running.  She is very good at following directions and doing activities.
UPDATE- For continued updates on Yi, go to 2007 Basic Life Needs.

January UPDATE-
Last month Simeon and Samara joined our hearts as Hope's Heart sponsor babies.  (See Basic Life Needs December 2005).  Samara's operation in December has helped her beome more comfortable.  She smiles a lot more readily.  Her movement is still good but she remains unable to lift her head.  Please be praying for continued healing of her body.

March UPDATE- Samara has encountered some physical challenges and has been re-admitted to the hospital for surgery.  Please keep her in prayer.   Simeon has returned to the orphanage from the special care foster home where he has received the love and medical attention he has needed.

   July (left) and October (right)

July UPDATE-  Samara has recovered from her surgery, but continues facing medical challenges which require regular attention.  Despite this she is a happy and content baby.  She enjoys watching and interacting with others, and hold/plays with her toys.  She is receiving excellent care and an abundance of love.

October UPDATE- Samara has been in the hospital again over the last few months due to an infection.  She has recovered for the moment,  and remains  content and happy to be around people and loves interacting with them.

March 2007 UPDATE- We grieve at the loss of Samara.  Her caregivers receive our condolences, and our gratitude for pouring so much of themselves into this little girl and her needs.  She was well loved and cared for.

Basic Life Need Sponsorship

December 2005-
Meeting the daily needs of abandoned babies continues to place high demands on orphan caregivers.  Sponsoring the basic life needs of these children through financial support allows the caregivers the opportunity to focus on quality love and care.  This high level of care is being given to Simeon and Samara.  Hope's Heart is honored to be a part of the lives of these two babies.  Sponsorship provides them with diapers, food, clothing and minor medical needs in an environment of dedication and love.

Simeon is feeding well and healthy.  Samara likes to be cuddled and also is eating well.  She is scheduled for surgery which will help correct a birth defect.  We look forward to sharing updates as we receive them.

One Year Basic Life Need Sponsorship

November 2005- Becca is growing fast and learning to sit a little on her own.  She is a shy, sweet little baby who enjoys being talked to by her nannies.
The amount of love, care, time, effort and attention given to raising children is huge.  On a daily basis Becca is receiving all of this from her caregivers.  Hope's Heart is helping to relieve some of the financial burdens through Becca's  basic-life sponsorship.  With ongoing contributions from supporters like you, Hope's Heart will be able to sponsor even more children in need of financial assistance to meet the demands for their daily needs.  Thank you for  considering a generous investment in an orphan's life.

Foster Care Sponsorship

Yi with foster mom
October 2005-

Hope’s Heart is pleased to announce we are now sponsoring Yi to help provide for her basic life needs and to give her the opportunity to live in a foster home.   Hope’s Heart supporters may remember Yi from our medical needs page.  We provided funding for her cleft surgery as our first medical grant.  We are thrilled to see how she is growing and thriving. We have been told that she is a very outgoing baby.  She is currently able to crawl and uses two hands to hold the toys that she is playing with.  Yi enjoys playing games with her foster parents and her favorite game is "hide and go seek."
Yi with foster mother

Yi December 2005November 2005 UPDATE-  This past month has been a time of exciting developmental strides for Yi, both in physical development and communication.  Foster care affords the individual attention that results in increased progress levels.  Yi is learning to communicate her likes and dislikes through smiles, frowns, and displays of excitement.  Physically she is mastering pulling herself to a standing position from sitting or laying down.  We are grateful for the encouragement and love she is getting from her new foster family, and to those responsible for developing and overseeing the foster care program.

December 2005 UPDATE - Over the past month, Yi's language understanding abilities have greatly improved.  She is also learning how to distinguish between people.  Whenever she shares things with those who are around her, she always gives the items first to her foster family and then to whomever else happens to be there.  Yi enjoys listening to music.  Whenever she hears music playing, she will start dancing to its rhythm.  Another area of development that Yi worked on over the past month was her walking ability.  She isn't able to walk on her own yet, but if she is able to hold onto someone's hand or a nearby object, she is able to walk for a short distance.  Yi is a charming, active little girl.

Continue following Yi's life on Basic Life Needs 2006.

Construction of Baby Room

October 2005
-  One of life's most basic needs is shelter.  Hope's Heart is honored to sponsor a baby room on the new addition being built on Hope Foster Home, Beijing, a home caring for severely ill orphan babies.  Covered in the sponsorship will be the installation of plumbing, electricity, windows, flooring, and doors.  Completion of the addition is expected the early part of 2006.

Spring 2006 UPDATE-  The baby room is complete and we have pictures to share with you.  What a blessing!  See the pictures and read more.

The First Basic Life Sponsorship Provided by Hope's Heart!!

February 2005- Hope's Heart is making a difference in the life of a baby girl, Katie,  through a sponsorship program which helps provide food, clothing, routine medical treatment, and a safe, caring place for her to live.  Now in a foster home placement, the hope is that she will either be adopted locally or through international adoption.  In the meantime, sponsorship helps meet her daily needs and is an avenue of reflecting how special she is.
